Five reason why I love being a natural hair woman :
-
Versatility : Natural hair is so versatile, I can do almost anything weaves, braids, curls, knots, braid-outs, you can wear is straight, colored, twist-out etc and at the end of the day with a little water I still have my curly natural hair.
-
Difference: Natural hair gives me a different look. It sets me apart from most women in a crowd. Most women wear long straight hair, but with my curly short frock its hard not to spot me. Also my natural body will make you do a double take lol
-
Confidence: Growing up I hid behind weaves and braids. Cutting my hair short was one of the most liberating things I've ever done. Learning to appreciate my hair and other features has helped me gain more confidence in myself and my other abilities. Today I don't look for validation from any where or one. I feel strong and powerful as a natural black African woman
-
Health conscious: I've always been health conscious about my body but never my hair. Being a naturalista has opened my eyes to so many more things, materials and methods of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Not just working out and eating right but products to apply on my hair and my skin. And a general change towards my approach on lifestyle and healthy living.
-
Team Natural : The natural hair movement is growing; more and more sistas are saying no to lyes and accepting their natural curl. Although this population is growing slowly but all the same growing. Every time I see a natural sista in Lagos, I wanna go over and start a conversation about our hair and all the wonderful things about being natural.
